Application of ant colony optimization for no-wait flowshop scheduling problem to minimize the total completion time

چکیده
Ant colony optimization (ACO) is a meta-heuristic proposed to derive approximate solutions for computationally hard problems by emulating the natural behaviors of ants. In the literature, several successful applications have been reported for graph-based optimization problems, such as vehicle routing problems and traveling salesman problems. In this paper, we propose an application of the ACO to a two-machine flowshop scheduling problem. In the flowshop, no intermediate storage is available between two machines and each operation demands a setup time on the machines. The problem seeks to compose a schedule that minimizes the total completion time. We first present a transformation of the scheduling problem into a graph-based model. An ACO algorithm is then developed with several specific features incorporated. A series of computational experiments is conducted by comparing our algorithm with previous heuristic algorithms. Numerical results evince that the ACO algorithm exhibits impressive performances with small error ratios. The results in the meantime demonstrate the success of ACO’s applications to the scheduling problem of interest. q 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

َA Multi-objective simulated annealing algorithm to solving flexible no-wait flowshop scheduling problems with transportation times
This paper deals with a bi-objective hybrid no-wait flowshop scheduling problem minimizing the makespan and total weighted tardiness, in which we consider transportation times between stages. Obtaining an optimal solution for this type of complex, large-sized problem in reasonable computational time by using traditional approaches and optimization tools is extremely difficult. متن کاملLot Streaming in No-wait Multi Product Flowshop Considering Sequence Dependent Setup Times and Position Based Learning Factors
This paper considers a no-wait multi product flowshop scheduling problem with sequence dependent setup times. Lot streaming divide the lots of products into portions called sublots in order to reduce the lead times and work-in-process, and increase the machine utilization rates. The objective is to minimize the makespan. To clarify the system, mathematical model of the problem is presented. Sin...
متن کاملParticle swarm optimization for minimizing total earliness/tardiness costs of two-stage assembly flowshop scheduling problem in a batched delivery system
This paper considers a two-stage assembly flow shop scheduling problem. When all parts of each product are completed in the first stage, they are assembled into a final product on an assembly machine in the second stage. In order to reduce the delivery cost, completed products can be held until completion of some other products to be delivered in a same batch. The proposed problem addresses sch...
متن کاملSolving Re-entrant No-wait Flexible Flowshop Scheduling Problem; Using the Bottleneck-based Heuristic and Genetic Algorithm
In this paper, we study the re-entrant no-wait flexible flowshop scheduling problem with makespan minimization objective and then consider two parallel machines for each stage. The main characteristic of a re-entrant environment is that at least one job is likely to visit certain stages more than once during the process. The no-wait property describes a situation in which every job has its own ...
متن کاملThe two-stage assembly flowshop scheduling problem with bicriteria of makespan and mean completion time
In this paper, we address the two-stage assembly flowshop scheduling problem with a weighted sum of makespan and mean completion time criteria, known as bicriteria. Since the problem is NP-hard, we propose heuristics to solve the problem. Specifically, we propose three heuristics; simulated annealing (SA), ant colony optimization (ACO), and self-adaptive differential evolution (SDE). We have co...
